When I used the official 1462DM monitor driver my PC became stuck in 640x480x16. With the default windows monitor driver 1024x768 refresh rate 43 had to be manually set, and if changed to automatically by the system, the refresh rate wasn't set correctly. In the official driver/inf HKR,"MODES\640,350",Mode1,,"31.5,70.0,+,-" seemed wrong so I started changing them to HKR,"MODES\640,350",Mode1,,"30.0-40.0,60.0-70.0,+,-" etc. Now it all works. Someone can update and improve these files if s/he likes.
